The Elizabeth Holmes-founded health technology business, was given a sentence of 12 years and 11 months in federal prison on December 7
Balwani, who was convicted earlier this year by a federal jury of defrauding investors, patients, and doctors through Theranos
Theranos, received a nearly 13-year sentence in addition to three years of supervision after his eventual release from prison, which he must turn over and start serving on March 15, 2023.
Balwani's financial obligation to make reparations is still up for debate. A hearing is expected to be scheduled soon.
Balwani's sentence "should serve as a message to anyone considering deception in their own pursuit for success," Hinds said in a statement after the verdict.
